It is a highly caustic base and alkali with inherent hazards that must be respected by those that handle it. This product is also available in higher concentrations and as NSF.

Sodium Hydroxide Solution is used in a broad range of applications, including: pulp and paper, detergent, chemical manufacture, water treatment, agricultural chemicals, paint removers, pigments, soap, surfactants, rayon, cellulose film, petroleum refining, reclaiming rubber, ore flotation and processing, ion-exchange resin regeneration, fruit and vegetable peeling, lab reagent, etching and electroplating, and pH adjustment.
This product is corrosive and causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling this product. Do not taste or swallow. Do not breathe mist or vapor. Use only with adequate ventilation. Use caution when combining with water; DO NOT add water to caustic, ALWAYS add caustic to water while stirring to minimize heat generation. Always observe good industrial hygiene practices.
