Dilute Nitric Acid is used in woodworking (to artificially age woods such as maple and pine). It is used as an etchant and cleaning product for metals and may be used on a variety of metals such as stainless steel, copper, and brass. It can be used to prepare surfaces for electroplating. This mineral acid is also commonly used in the production of fertilizers.
This product causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with this product. Do not breathe mist, vapors, or spray. Do not taste or swallow. Wash face, hands, and any exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Provide an eyewash station and a safety shower. Always observe good personal hygiene measures. This chemical is exothermic and produces heat when in contact with water. Never add water to acid when diluting, dilute by slowly pouring the product into the water while stirring. Do not store in metal containers. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Keep the container tightly closed.
