The past year has been an overall good year for the Propylene Glycol market. Slowdowns in housing, automotive, and other markets have led to considerable (welcome) price softening, beginning in the fall of 2022. Besides market shifts, imported product was being offered at highly competitive, discounted rates. More recently, price drops in the past several months have been attributed to some crude oil refineries coming back online after both planned and unplanned outages this past summer.
Going into the winter months, we have seen a slight shift as small price increases have taken effect. These increases are believed to be primarily related to demand increases for de-icing of airplanes and other antifreeze applications. The increases suggest that, as welcome as the sliding prices for Propylene Glycol have been, these may not continue.
