Sodium Bicarbonate is used in detergents and cleaning products, as a water softening agent, and in animal feed as a rumen buffer (digestive aid). It may be used for neutralization of acid spills, agriculture, as a fire extinguisher, or as a fungicide. It is commonly used for pH adjustment in a wide variety of applications such as pools, hot tubs, and spas. It has weak disinfectant properties. It may be used for odor control, such as to absorb musty smells from old books.
Dust may irritate eyes, skin, or respiratory system. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing and wash thoroughly after handling. Good general ventilation should be used when working with this material. In case of inadequate ventilation use suitable respirator. If the product comes in contact with eyes, flush thoroughly with water. Always observe good personal hygiene measures. Provide eyewash station and safety shower. Keep in a tightly closed container and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Material is stable under normal conditions. Avoid contact with excessive heat or moisture.
