Recently, we received a letter from Byron Brown, Owner of AquaKnox, Inc., reflecting on more than a decade of using CORECHEM glycol blends. A Large-Scale Introduction
Byron’s first interaction with CORECHEM products came in 2012 on a jobsite at Bledsoe County Correctional Facility, then the largest geothermal system in Tennessee, with a volume of nearly 190,000 gallons.
Working as a field service rep for Guardian-IPCO at the time, Byron’s role was to independently monitor corrosion in the system using standard copper and steel corrosion coupons.
The system had been filled with CORECHEM glycol, and the results were surprising:
“The results we obtained through our quarterly analysis were astoundingly low for both copper and steel. In fact, we were hesitant to release the results… since error was suspected.”
But the numbers held up, quarter after quarter. By the end of the year-long evaluation, Guardian-IPCO delivered the system an A+ corrosion report card.
Performance That Holds Up Over Time
Years later, as Owner of AquaKnox, Inc., Byron encountered another chance to assess CORECHEM performance – this time at the University of Tennessee’s Science & Engineering Research Facility (UT SERF).
Six energy recovery systems were being replaced after 12 years of continuous operation using CORECHEM GlycoChill+P235HD (35% Propylene Glycol).
No corrosion rate data had been collected, but the demolition process allowed for visual inspection of the 3″ steel pipe. What they found? “The corrosion inhibitor package had kept the pipe in the immaculate and highly desirable passive ‘jet black’ condition… with no signs of corrosion even after 12 years.”
